???

Are you referring to someplace in the ocean, perhaps somewhere along the Southeast coast or Carribean where they've invaded?

Im happt with my 50th kill, these beautiful fish do not belong here in the atlantic.lionfish eat until they explode.they are good eating aswell, nice white meat.but getting real here guys and gals, these fish are a huge problem, theyll kill everything on a reef

Why not relocate them for fun and profit?

I have no problems with lionfish killing if you eat them afterwards. Happy hunting :)

Not exactly ;). The range (http://nas.er.usgs.gov/queries/FactSheet.asp?speciesID=963) has since spread.

LFS near me sells them for a few hundred to a grand i think....i would stop killing and start selling

you would need a license to collect and sell them wouldn't you?

yeah we need a licence to hunt them because we use scuba gear with a hawiian sling, were not aloud spearguns here.As far as selling them abroad I dont think our government would allow that.Government is very strict on importing and exporting live fish, especially saltwater fish. You know its funny..I can buy a red eared slidder but I cant buy a blue head wrasse from our own waters,I can set up an amazing saltwater reef tank but cant buy anything to stock it with.Glad we have these laws because of people dumping their stock into the ocean after a hurricane because of power loss.

Well, probably not permanently...might be able to find them in around august, but they can't stay up here indefinitely.

Juvenile lionfish have been found periodically in near-shore environments off New York, New Jersey and Rhode Island since 2001; however survival of these fish is not expected due to the species' intolerance of cold winter temperatures (Kimball et al. 2004, Whitfield et al. 2002).

It would be cool to go diving and see one though.

No, it's not expected to be permanent, but who knows what seasonal effects on other juvenile fish it may have.

I didn't even know they were possible to eat.. being poisonous and all. One hand it is sad to hear you doing this to a nice looking fish, but on the other hand I do understand sometimes it is required to save the rest of the local fish when lions invade.

we use a torch to burn the poison barbs off and then pluck him like a chicken. a kid ended up in the hospital the other day because he didnt know what he had caught.Education is the key when dealing with invasive animals. Please understand all that this is a reall problem we have here.Kinda like the snake fish theyre having problems with in America. These fish are beautiful but they do not belong here. Our reefs and their ecosystems are far more important than a lionfish.Hope you all understand....thanx

I completely understand. I have a hard time killing animals, but I think I would be okay on a FL trip where killing Burmese Pythons or something is okay...something about invasives killing natives gets to me in that way.

has this species migrated naturally to your waters or was it brought over lithe the snakeheads?

a point for debate, hopefully not controversy.

at what point is a species invading and killing off a population considered an invasive species and when is it considered evolution?

Migration's fine, but you might either look to the snakehead or potentially the zebra mussel model for how the lionfish made the trek to the Atlantic in such a short period of time.

I think they were let go buy people thinking they were doing the right thing. These things have only been here about 8 years or longer.I dont think they made the trek themselves, some bone head in the states put them in the ocean............................................. .................................................. ...............................................

The snakehead problem has (IMO) been blown out of proportion here in the US. I am glad you are eating what you kill! :)
