I have a 20 gallon long aquarium (soon to be upgraded to 40 gallons) that houses a rainbow shark among tetras and danios. Ive been searching for a pleco that doesn't reach monster size like the common pleco does, and my local pet shop just got in a bunch of candy stripe plecos. I hear they only reach around 4 inches in length, which will be perfect for the 40 gallon ill be getting in a few months.

In my 20 gallon long tank, I have a quite sizable cave that my rainbow shark is in at the moment, the cave takes up about 1/4 the length of the tank. I want to purchase this candy stripe pleco, and I was wondering if the pleco and the rainbow shark will get along together? The rainbow shark is only around 2" and the candy stripe plecos at the shop look to be about 2 inches.

You might want to rearrange the decor when you add the pleco to give everyone a chance at territory. But you better set up your new tank soon, because sharks are VERY territorial and get rather big.

Thanks for the reply, I purchased the candy stripe pleco, he's about 1.5" right now, and I took your advice and re-arranged the decor before I put him in. I just had to purchase him because all my LFS only sell common pleco, so to see one that actually had something that stayed small, I had to pick it up.

I would put some type of wood in there if there isn't already. IME the plecos stick to the wood.
