i was thinking of getting some snails for my puffers.
but are the snail sold at such places okay for fish to eat?

I'll buck up and say I don't know. Sorry. Can't stand to see a thread go unanswered...even if there is no answer in the...uh...reply!:)
Around here, at the fish markets, the dealers need to have detailed descriptions on hand of the process their 'items' have gone through before reaching the market itself. Maybe by asking someone at the market, you will be able to learn more of the situation, and whether it was healthy or not, or whether any chemicals or disease are present. If lucky, you may find someone that is willing to explain it all in honesty.
IMO, I would be worried that a mass of snails can lead to disease. With that many live snails on hand, chances are, at least one of then is a carrier of something or other. To be cooked and consumed is one thing, but to use as live food... well, be cautious!
Sorry, don't have an answer for you. Let us know if you do find anything out!
