Picking up a 220g high tomorrow and I'll be setting it up for either African or some type of new world cichlids. Right now I've got 3 125g tanks all w/ multiple AC 500's (awesome filters), but I know it's probably not practical to use these on a 220g. The new tank is drilled in both bottom corners, so I'm ready for some type of sump set-up if that's the best way to go (I've never set one up, but there's plenty of info. and equipment available). I'd like to know what others have done with similar set ups for cichlids (even though the tank is drilled, I don't have to use the holes). Any information on methods and/or specific equipment is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance fish people!!

if the tank is already drilled I would most definatly go ahead and put in a wet/dry filter. They are the most efficent filters for larger sizes.
you can buy a complete setup for one at a fish store or you can build one yourself quite cheaply.
if you want I can give you links to some plans for.

for sure go the wet/dry filters and if you chose a few large americans you will need it lol but for africans still go with it but its not as much needed as for americans (dirty buggers lol)

On my 220 I run (2) Emperor 400s and an Amiricle Maxi-Reef 400 wet/dry with a Mag12 pump for return. I do not have the tank pre-drilled. I use a hang on Amiricle overflow box that takes up less than half the tank space a pre-drilled tank would. Also In the wet dry I have (2) 300watt Visi-therm heaters. I never ever had water quality issues.. even if i do a water change a few days late.
