This is probably a silly question, I bought some potted aquatic plants they are in tiny plastic pots, do I remove them from this before putting into the substrate or no?
 
Yes, completely remove the plastic pot and plant the plant
 
I always remove the plant from the pot; I think it establishes itself quicker that way. But if you leave it in I imagine the roots will still be able to spead out through the gaps. It may also be easier to move the plant in the future if you leave it in the pot.
