Hi guys...I'm having a major problem with my 8 month old Red Albino Oscar "Rosie"....about 4 months ago...while I was cleaning her tank...the light slipped and fell into the tank...no harm was done...but it totally freaked her out and she completely stopped eating and just sat in the bottom corner moping...up to that point she loved to eat pellets, krill, and fresh shrimp pieces and the occasional feeder fish...up to that point she was (and still is) very healthy and active...the only problem is that the only thing she will eat now are the feeders (for the last 2 months)....she absolutely refuses to eat ANYTHING else....she is in a 75 gallon tank by herself...all water parameters and temps are perfect..I've tried the stop feeding her route and that didn't work at all...she will just starve herself to death (as she almost did for the first 2 months of this fiasco...I'm getting real worried cause I'm getting 2 conflicting reports on this....1)...everywhere I read on the net says that just feeding her feeder fish will cause her malnutrition and she will die...BUT...the guy at my LPS says that she will be just fine and not to worry....please help me...I'm getting more worried everyday and I'm at a lose at what to do !!! Thanks for any and all help.

thats the way my oscar is. he wont eat any type of pellets floating or sinking. he loves feeders but i have found he will eat flakes. i get my flake from kensfish and they are huge pieces. i will stick 1 big flake in and he will eat them 1 at a time. it takes me longer to feed him then it does to feed the other 12 tanks.lol

I feed mine feeders maybe once a month as a treat, as they are not a significant nutrition source. I would stop giving him feeders until he starts eating pellets or flakes. Use floating pellets netting out anything he doesn't eat. Don't give in and give him feeders if he doen't eat the pellets after a couple of days he will eat them. I had a friend that had to do something similar, and it worked. He will be stubborn for a couple of day and then give in to his hunger. After you get him back on pellets don't give him feeders for about a month or so, and then only as treats. Should work good luck :D

kensfish.com also does a moist and meaty pellet. I bought these for my oscar but found that none of my fish can resist them. I would give them a try. Ken has some of the best food going.

Thanks...but as I said...I already tried that...she went almost 2 months and never ate a thing I would try to give her...and I have the wasted money and full containers of food to prove it...she dam near starved to death...she got skinny and I would rather have her eating feeders than dead...and I'm positive that's the way she would have ended up...at one point I even wanted to get rid of her and get another one...but my wife wouldnt let me...it's the craziest thing I ever saw.

She had to have been eating something in 2 months. I doubt she could have gone that long without any food. Maybe she just eats when no one's watching or when the lights are out.

Sorry bro...hate to tell ya...what I put in the tank for thoses 2 months (and I used to count the pellets)...I took out the next morning...as I said...she almost starved to death...but now she's healthy as heck.
