Hi:
I an new to all the aquarum talk, I went out to ask a question in the general marine forum and when I got answered to my question which I appreciated very much but really am still lost and realized I probaly should be in a newbie forum. I have a 75 gal tank, It has been running since July I have 5 fish and have already been thru the new tank syndrome. I am running a cascade 1500 canister filter. I have about 50 to 60 lbs of live rock and about 2 inches of crushed coral. all of a sudden I started getting a nitrate rise. it is up to about 80 ppm. The lfs where I bought the tank tells me this is normal. To do water changes to bring it down. i went to another lfs, and the man I spoke with, who has a degree in marine biology, he told me that I need to run a wet/dry filter, to provide proper filteration. I have talk to others who tell me no this is not true. I just need to know what I should do. Like a fool I purchased the wet/dry costing me about 400.00 and now am not sure if I should run it or not.

I experience the same problem . I'm new to marine tanks but I would guess you need a protein skimmer. Most wet/dry systems will need drilling of tank.

Noticed that there were 2 of these and since Corax did a great job at answering on the other I've taken my dribble away. :D
