For the past week, my two convicts (which I thought we females right up until now) started hanging out in this little cave I have in my 75g. They started to defend the cave vigorously against all the other fish. I still thought they were females at the time, though I was starting to wonder.
Today, I did my (late) weekly tank cleaning, and out of curiousity, I lifted up the little cave to have a look inside. Low and behold, there were eggs inside. Some, obviously not fertilized, were white and marshmellowy. The rest were a golden brown in color... does this mean they are fertilized, or has fungus just not come around yet?
If so, that means that one of them is a male in disguise...

Thanks in advance.

I'd say the golden brown eggs were fertile... The convicts I have that spawn usually dispose of the bad eggs. Not sure if they eat them or just spit them out of the nest though.
