Hi there, just joined up today, thought I'd show you my tank.

It's had a total overhaul today, spray painted the back black, fully gutted it out etc etc...it's a work in progress, but here's the before and afters of it so far!

So here's how it WAS:

Obviously the poor decor is temporary so they have some cover until I sort out black sand for the substrate and stacked slate tiling at the back....

would love some feedback? I think the fish look stunning with the new black background!

Hi and welcome!
That's great improvement in your tank setup; good job. IMO, I like some contrast in the tank's decor; so if there is a dark background and the slate rocks are also dark, I would use a light colored substrate. If you like black sand with the black background, then I would use light colored rocks as Texas holey rocks, for example. Both combination are sweet and add contrast to the tank, IMHO. Of course, all depends on your preferences.

Great tank - the black background is a brilliant change to make. Those labs look really nice.

And welcome to AC :D

Cheers for all the comments, I'm still waiting on the black sand (ebay!) I live in a fairly remote area, hard to get hold of the fish themselves, let alone nice substrates!

Yeah it's not a massive tank, 100 litres or so, ummm about 26gallons?

I think it's a bit overstocked at the minute, due to prolific breeding of the labs (another 30 freshly stripped in the floating container in the pics!).

Wish there were people to swap cichlid fry with here! Can't find anyone!

Welcome, nice to see another African cichlid keeper turn up. Get yourself some bags, heat packs, and styro for insulating boxes. Shipping fish isn't too tough if you can't find buyers locally.
