My zebra angel keeps nipping and chasing away my black angel, I was wondering what would be the best way to curb aggression in angelfish. They both live in a 45g, well planted tank, they are still pretty young and the only other fish in this tank are some corys a golden dwarf cichlid and a brazillain puffer. Would more angels spread the aggression out so that there is'nt so much nipping between the two of them? I also hear that you shouldnt keep angels with similar markings together as it causes the similar fish to fight (i dont really know about that one) I was hoping i could get some suggestions to keep things under control?

A little quarreling among angels is just natural. I'd leave them alone.

Another angel will help out a a whole lot, just don't get another silver(they'll probably gang up on the remaining one). In my experience with angels, the silver (zebra) angels have the biggest attitude problem. I love the way they look, but I won't buy them any more just because they are very aggressive with other angels, and, sometimes, the other fish. I would go with another black or maybe a smokey angel. If you want, you could even get 2 more angels. The only thing is to try to get ones the same size.

I would do as Puma says with getting more, I would say 2 more at the very least. The aggression seems to lessen when there are more to go around. And as she says, I'd stay away from the striped as they tend to be more territorial or dominance oriented over any others. My favorites are the zebras but not a good choice for you. I would go with the smokey ones, I think they're also called bleeding hearts, they're pretty as well. Another thing that's important is to try to get as close to the same size as you can if not a little bit bigger (not too big though) to keep this aggressive one at bay a bikit. If you do this and notice your striped Angel is still being a bully, your only alternative then is to get him out of the tank and into another if at all possible.
