i have a 10 gallon with 1 2inch male betta i was wondering if i could put about 5 neon tetras or something else common in with it

Neons can be nippy, so I've heard that they aren't the best for bettas. But they may work.

You want something that won't nip the betta's fins and harrass him, but that doesn't look like a betta. (bright colors, and long fins are a no-no. Thus fancy guppies are out.)

Cories can be great for betta tanks. In a ten gallon, you don't necessarily need any more top dwellers, and a small school of playful cories liven things up. (i don't remember which cory species stay small enough for a 10 gallon, but they exist.)

depnds on the betta. ive got 1 who will live peacefully in a community and another who tries to kill the briggs snail(he never hurts them just flares and such) in his tank. 3 julii cories would work for bottom dwellers

While all the male bettas I've had have been different around other fish, I've kept males and females at the same time with 2 serpae tetras, 1 blackskirt tetra, 1 white cloud and schools of emerald eye and harlequin rasboras. When I had neons, they didn't nip at the bettas at all. I say go ahead and get 8 neons. Is this tank planted?

So, how is the OP supposed to get their hands on julii cories?

I've stocked bloodfin tetras, neon tetras, a green cory and a bronze, and my betta has not had any problem with any of them. He did chase the bloodfins away from his "nest" (a large 4 leaf'ed plant that he would rest in the middle of and blow bubble nests in, very cute) but he never actually hurt anything. He only got upset if they came near his nest.
He only had a 5 gallon hex, (at the time had 2 bloodfins and 3 neons with him) and with your 10 gallon he has plenty of room to stake out a territory. I'm with puffers, go ahead and try some neons :)

the betta i have was with a alge eater for about 5 min then i had to get him out because he tried to kill the alge eater but the alge eater was twice his size and bettas dont get along with fish bigger than them
