I can no longer trust the pet store!
:swear:
Improperly trained employees at the local pet stores have given me so much bad information over the last couple of years I no longer have any faith in their so-called fish experts.
I should start by saying that as a pet owner I am ultimately responsable for the decisions I make. But you would expect employees working in the aquarium section to be some what hobbist with some experince with fish. At the very least be honest and able to admit if they don't have the answer to your questions. I know by reading these fourms there are many other people out there that must feel the same way I do. All I can say is, from experience you need to do your own research via the internet, books, and peers, before making any decisions on buying a fish.
Two weeks ago I was at pet store, (no names) and I was talking with the supervisor in the aquarium section about some zebra danios I was about to buy, In the next tank over I had seen a Red Clawed Crab in a fully filled aquarium. I asked the lady about the crab and she told me that this specices is aquatic and doesn't need dry land to live. My mistake was to impulse buy going off the information she had given me.
Every couple of days now I come home from work to find the crab has clawed his way up the side of my aquarium, and is out of the water clinging to the side of my filter, (hang on back). I really don't want him to die because of the enviroment, (same type set-up he was in at the store). I have now done the research I should have done a couple of weeks ago and have found that this crab needs a tank partially filled with water and a land mass for him to crawl out on. I found this information on the internet and am wondering if its true as well. I don't really know what to do at this point. I would like any advice I could get from anyone who might have some experience with these crabs.
Thankyou.
