I have a 75g FW currently unplanted tank stocked with appx 9 fairly good sized silver dollars, 3 rainbow sharks, couple of guppies, and a large black ghostknife. I am dreaming (NOT of a white Christmas) of a completely planted tank full of flowing lush green foliage....*snaps back to reality*...then I'm reminded of how silver dollars are known to be little lawnmowers. Is there anything that silver dollars DONT eat? I've raised these guys from little dime sized twirps up to near saucer-sized behemoths, so not only am I attached to them, but they're just gorgeous swimming in their school, all shimmery and stuff.

So, are my dreams of a planted tank just that...dreams? Or are there options? :help:

The only plant mine have left alone for an indefinite amount of time was hornwort. I never tried java fern, but I've heard they'll leave that alone. They ate everything else I tried (moss, crypts, anubias, swords, hygro).

On a side note, once those SDs are grown, that is going to be a VERY tight space for 9 of them. I have five in my 150, they're all a good 5-6" and they definitely use the entire tank. I actually started out with 10, lost a few to the oscar and carpet surfing, but I'm kind of glad the numbers have dwindled at this point, seeing them at full size.

Ugh, I shudder at the thought of EVER doing hornwort again. I got a couple clumps of it from my LFS. Little did I know what kind of hell it wreaked on my tank. No one told me the extent it would go to shed ALL over the place, my poor Emperor filter nearly seized up out of protest.
