Any ideas for a simple 10 gal reef and 10 refugium system?

I plan on setting up a simple 10 gal reef with few fish, live rock, and some inverts. A 10 gallon refugium with mangroves and chaeto with be connected as well. What is a simple method of exchanging water between the two? I would preferably like to use some sort of overflow system with a pump or powerhead to return the water. Any suggestions on equipment and setup? Both 10 gal glass aquariums are standard with no mods
-Thanks,
Ken

Will the tanks be side by side, or will the DT be above the sump. This changes your options.

I dont know about 10 gallons, but I doubt the bottom is tempered on a tank that small. Id drill the bottom for a 1in drain line, using an internal durso. Then use a small powerhead to bring the water back up to the DT.

uhh mabye a simple siphon transfer? take a siphon tube start 1 up then start 1 up on the opposite tank. would transer water very efficiently

I could see a problem here if you lost suction on one tube, and the other kept running.

I think as long as the siphons are functioning near the surface of the water that might eliminate any risk of them ceasing. A siphon/powerhead system could be positioned in the same way I assume.

a siphon wont work that way. it will only flow one direction. also most ten gallon tanks are tempered. i tried to drill a few. i had a ten gallon setup with a ten gallon tub sitting behind it. it was a little taller. the water pump from a power head into the tub and back into the display via piping/ bulkheads. hope that helps
