I have a problem, I'm looking to recreate an Amazon theme but have never used live plants before. What species should I use? I have a 29 gallon Topfin tank. I live in Kansas City and we don't have any fish clubs or small business fish stores that I know of. We really only have big chains such as Petco and Petsmart. I'm hoping to stay away from them if possible. So if any of you can help me with plant, and animal species, and where I can track down some driftwood, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi,
You can try spunjin in the classifieds for driftwood. When i was doing an amazon theme, i would use, amazon swords, tropica swords, crypts, vals, pennywort, water lettuce, and some mosses.I don't know if all of these are even from the amazon but they looked good together.

Hope that helps

You have a lot to pick from, Mr. Lochness, and still be accurate with what actually grows there.

Alternanthera reinecki
Cabomba
Echinodorus genus, sword plants
Echinodorus tenellus (Dwarf sword plant)
Eleocharis acicularis (Hair grass)
Giant Duckweed
Heteranthera zosteraefolia
Hydrocotyle leucocephala
Mayaca fluviatilis
Myriophyllum
Riccia fluitans
Vals

"The substrate in the blackwater habitats typically consists of leaf litter over a base of fine sand and mud-like clay. Some submerged plant growth is also present in areas where the light manages to penetrate the thick foliage of the overhanging trees above the water surface."
