i went out last night and picked up some sugar and yeast, and made myself a quick diy c02 system with enough supplies for 2 months for about 10$.

Overnight lots of oxygen bubbles have appeared on my plants, but im now worried about thread algae. it started about a week ago and i dont know what to do when it starts to get bad.

also, the mixture of c02 i used was a 3/4 bottle (2L) of water with 2 cups of sugar and 1 tsp of yeast for 5.5g. the tube goes directly into my filter intake and seems to dissolve the c02 fairly well, at one bubble every ~10 seconds. is this ok? too slow? too much? new to c02.

excuse the messy scape i had to seperate a few plants real quick and havent gotten around to fixing it up yet.

anyone have any input on c02 for small tanks and hair algae? the 5.5g has a betta, 2 guppies, 3 snails, and 2 ghost shrimp

Decrease the amount of time you keep the lights on. How are you diffusing the co2?

my lights usually stay on from 7:30 AM to around 10PM, is this too long? dont my plants need the light to use the c02?

I have the co2 tube going into the filter intake where its being munched up by the impeller. no bubbles are coming back out so i assume it is being dissolved alright.

looks cute. the plants should be ok with 8 hours of light.

Nice looking tank!

i love the look of the 5gal its a beast! i havnt had any luck with plants in sand...how did you pull it off?

I am starting to have the algae problem, too. I love leaving the tank lights on for as long as I am awake, but I am going to have to put them all on a timer. The 2 tanks that are on the timer don't have the hair algae. Piffle.

betta looks happy
