I put a couple of bigger, small leafed plants in the 29 g. They are soemthing soemthing wort. They are bundled with a lead weight around the bottom.

My light fixture is standard flourescent tube (one tube). i would like to add some CF lamps, but I am not sure how to go about doing this. (1) do i need a new light fixture (my tank is a acrylic with a strange little light fixture so I am worried about fit).

Also, I aerate the tank via a 310 power head. I had always understood this to be a good thing and did not realize teh impact it had on plants and co2. The filter I use puts out a good volume of water at the surface (penguin 150) and I can turn the aeration off on teh power head so that it just creates surface tension. I am going to make a DIY co2 injection bottle to see if that will help my plants (I also plan on adding additional live plants).

So, will turnign off the aeration on teh power head hurt the fish? Will adding the CO2 and allowing the filter and power head to disturb surface be sufficient oxygen? thank you all veyr much for your help.

Hornwort, pennywort, moneywort...

You won't want much surface agitation with DIY Co2 otherwise you'll gass off the C02 which defeats the whole purpose. You can use a PH to diffuse but you'll want to set it far enough below the water line so it doesn't create a huge disturbance.

The fish should be fine. I have a negligible amount of surface agitation without any apparent O2 issues.

Be careful of pushing the edge of this. With no surface agitation and lots of plant growth I was finding my fish gasping in the mornings. They were fine as long as the lights were on and the plants were making O2. Now that I have a slight surface agitation everyone is happy.

It is hornwort. But I think I am going to be planting more this weekend. Not sure what exactly as I am not sure what they have in stock. I am also hoping to make my DIY co2 injector. I really like the idea of hooking it up to the power head. I can then set it on low and run the undergravel filter and inject CO2 at the same time. That is a cool idea.
