ok guys and girls just got a new tank. its a 36" by 17" by 18" tank. judging the best that i can the tank is just over 45 gallons. I went and bout a penguin 200 made by marine land (hope its a good one?????) witha biowheel and have started the cycle now in almost a week. Now i also have a running 55 thats been stocked for nearly 3 months now with 3 angels 4 dwarf gauramis a iridescent shark and a pleco. My question is this..... I want to put my two (kenyi?) cichlids in one of the tanks along with possibly 4 more and 6 cobalts. Which tank wud they fair best in. Removing the existing fish, and filter in the 55 would be worth having the longer tank for the cichlids but i do NOT want the white gravel thats in the 55 with the cichlids. if they would be fine in the 45? i would easily only have to find a darker cichlid sand substrate and then add the fish. Any opinions would be appreciated. Also any recomendations as to a bottom feeder or pleco that would be compatable with my purty lil mbunas?

I would set up the larger of the tanks for the cichlids.

kenyis and cobalts. any ideas on a bottom feeder or pleco? or do i not need them for the penguin filter? also the filters rated for a 50. will it be ok in the 55?

Ok both of those are mbuna cichlids. just a warning that Kenyi can be very aggressive, it can work though. I would keep a 1 male 4 female ratio, plus 1 male 4 female cobalt blues then the same ratio of some other species of africans. As far as bottom feeders go syno catfish make nice additons. My favorite is the Synodontis Petricola. Beautiful, can handle the aggression from the cichlids, like the same water preferances and don't get very big. Cichlids are messy fish you will want to bulk up on filtration, but while they are small the penguin will work fine. After they get bigger I would look into adding a second filter to keep up with the bioload.

Your Angels are also cichlids btw.

Have a look at some profiles on this site and post back with a) what you like and b) what you think you can get. wwww.cichlidforum.com

Also in the Rift Lake Cichlids Forum (waving my magic wand now to bring us there) there are tons of threads stocking this size tank that you can look at.
