i was just doing a water change on my 29 gallon in my room and my brother came in and asked me to help him build a fire in the fireplace. so pulled up the siphon to stop the water flow into the bucket, and go help him. about 10 minutes later i hear this really irritating splashing sound. i ran into my room and the bucket was overflowing onto my floor. the 29 gallon had about 5 inches of water left in it. i guess i didn't pull the siphon out long enough to stop the flow.
im so screwed. if at all possible im not going to tell my parents, but should i? if it will cause any problems to the house then i will tell them, but if not i would rather keep it between me and the fish...i am on the seond floor btw...
i have used about 12 towels to soak stuff up and it is starting to dry out a bit, but there is still a little water in the carpet..
:help:

You should be fine as long as you don't see wet spots on the ceiling below your room.

Turn a fan on and open a window. 20 gallons or so isn't too terribly bad.

Get every towel in the house and throw down on the carpet. If you've used all the towels, then get some blankets and throw them down and keep walking on them and soaking all the water out of the carpet. Keep doing that until you don't see the towels or blankets getting very wet.
That's a lot of water in the carpet and in the pad underneath.
You can vacuum it if your dad has one of those wet/dry shopvacs in his garagae/workshop.
You can rent a carpet cleaner at the grocery stores and get a product that inhibits mold and use it in that.
I'd have a major coniption if I found out that one of my upstairs rooms had a major leak of aquarium water in it. That is really a lot of water that spreads out over a large area and will stay in the pad under the carpet unless you really soak or vacuum up the majority of it.
I hope it works out for you. You might be better off if you just
"fess up" and let your parents handle the carpet cleaning.
If you want to keep your parents from learning about this mishap then be sure to wash and dry the towels and blankets and put away after you do that.

do you have a carpet shampooer? Do you have time to rent one?

a carpet shampooer is the best method.. because they SUCK up water really well
if you dont have access to one... use lotsa towels and keep doing it untill its mostly dry

Deffinately a shop vac or a rug cleaner would pick up water the best, but alot of towels will help alot too..I figure you got right on it,it shouldent be soaked in too bad

Well I see how you wouldn't want to tell your parents. If you have to time, and ability, you could rip up the carpet, but only if you know how to put it back.
When it comes to parents there are three options:
Let em know
Let em Find out
Let them never know
Your best options are 1, followed closely by 3, and way way back there is 2.
Basically dont let them find out. They will be mad beyond belief. So either tell them or hide it.
Good luck logan.

Sounds like you need ShamWOW!
Seriously, I've had the same kind of thing happen to me, except the parents part. I toweled the area and vaccumed it, all good. Except it put me about 30 mins behind schedule for the ECAS meeting

You need to tell them because it's their house and they need to do things to ensure something like this doesn't turn into a major house problem. Mold, water damage, etc. It may not be a big deal but better safe then sorry. Man (or woman) up to it, tell them, fix it and move on.

Honesty is the best policy. But then again.....I don't know your particvular situation. I hope what ever you choose to do turns out okay for you Logan! I am sorry this happened--it really stinks.

ok, if u are real smart u will wash the towels and dry them...
u also need to wash the carpet....do u have a wet vac? shop vac?
oh and after u clean up the mess...and make it look all purty do your folks and yourself a big favor.....
be honest with them
tell them u had a little aqaurium accident,,cleaned it up but wanted to be honest and mature and tell them about it....
They might holler a bit, but they will appreciate your honesty, trust u even more, and acknowledge to their friends they raised a fine young man.
(ok i cant help it, i am a parent, grandparent, and much prefer the honesty to the secrets)
