Question for Wet/Dry Filter Users

I picked up a complete Toms wet/dry pro filter today that had all the tubing replaced and looks pretty new for 50.00 My question is it has a built in skimmer but I am not going to use it on a salt water but freshwater so do I even need to hook up and run the skimmer part? my other 2 wet/dry filters dont have a built in skimmer so I just wanted to ask if I had to hook this one up for the wet dry filter to work properly?

You are correct that you don't need it in FW. No you don't have to hook it up.
