Hi All,

I discovered a few weeks ago that two of my cichlids mated, a fire mouth and a hondurin red fin. most of the fry were consumed despite the parents fending off the other cichlids in the tank. Last night i found that two survived... somehow. they are both hiding under a piece of driftwood. too early to tell if they are some odd breed of fish considering the parents.

Any ideas to keep them protected? i have no spare tanks i could never fish these two out of the tank anyway, too much stuff and too many fish.

Was thinking about a small plastic box with holes big enough to let them in but too small to let other fish in. Anyone know where to get something like that? Other ideas?

Thanks!

That sounds like it might work for awhile. Just make sure to selectively feed the guys. And feed them good frozen or live food to bulk them up quickly.

I agree it's a good idea (the plastic box) but i have no idea where to find one. These guys live under the drift wood, like a little corner of it, when i say under i mean under getting them food is impossible.

Leave the breeder box with top slightly open near them with very small amount of food inside. then place rocks on the other three sides for darkness.

When they enter and there are likely to be more than two, just scope up the box. You an raise them in there. Just make sure than you daily water change with the tank! :)

Good luck and have some fun, :):)
