Any ideas as to what this is growing on my LR?

I have this 'grass' like stuff growing on my LR. It is now getting quite long and just wondered what it was? Should i snip it? I have no problems with it just curiuos as to what it is.

Could either be normal hair algae( derbesia marina ) or bryopsis....pics are a little blurred, so, i cant say for sure mate...

And, am i reading your SG / Salinity correctly?? SALITNITY/SG: 30/2.022
 
I would remove as much of it as possible. It's likely being caused by the phosphate levels you're seeing. If you work to reduce those phosphate levels, it shouldn't hang around long term.

You may want to raise your SpG up to 1.024 - 1.026 as well, especially if you have any coral.

Thanks for that. I will cut it all back. I thought my levels were abit low on the salt level, i shall increase gradually to 1.024. the LFS said they were ok. should trust my instincts i think.
Should i run a phosphate remover or just small frequent water changes?

Oh oh before i forget............ how long should i have my lights on per day? I have NO coral or anenome (oops bad spelling i thinks :p ) Thinking this may also be helping the growth along, hummmmmm

Running a phosphate remover will likely give you quicker results. Many people that use phosphate removers run them constantly. If you're getting phosphates from your source water, you'll only be able to reduce them with water changes so much. Unfortunately, it only takes very low levels of phosphates to get algae started.

I use RO water so should be phosphate free right? Well 'll get a phosphate remover tomorrow. I should run this in my external canister filter i guess. Alos how long should i keep the lights on everyday? thanks very much, i'm glad i asked now o:)
 
Are you using RO or is it RO/DI? RO doesn't neccessarily remove all of the nutrients, which is why the DI step is very good to have.

Yes, the phosphate remover can be run in your canister filter. You may need a filter bag to hold the phosphate remover, as some are pretty fine grained.

The daylight bulb(s) shouldn't be on any more than 7 - 8 hours per day, while actinics can be run an additional 1 - 2 hours on each end of that if you like.

I just called my LFS and asked them and it is RO water only. I get it free you see, they are very good. What is the DI part then? This is getting further away from the inital question, but fasinating none the same. ;)
