how many could you have in a 5g tank with a male betta

I think a 5 gallon is too small for ottos. It's pretty much stocked with the betta. You could probably add a snail
you could have a few possibly, Assuming you have good filtration and keep up with tank maintenance. They are a bit sensitive however, and also need a certain amount of Algae growth to feed off of or you will have to feed them fresh blanched veggies.
All in all, i would say spend the $13 on a 10g and go that way.
