I recently purchased a pair of bicolor anthias at my LFS. I have a couple of questions. First, I have not been able to find bicolor anthias listed in any of the on-line sites. Is there a different name for these guys. They are orange on top and pick on the bottom. I was told that they stay small, 3-4". I would appreciate any help with the ID. Also, I was told that they do better in pairs or groups. Is this true or was I just suckered into buying 2.

They can get to about 5 inches, are relatively hardy and reef-safe. Feed enriched foods to maintain good color. If they are young and introduced first, they should acclimate well and be able to be kept with some semi aggressive tank mates. Not sure if they can be kept in pairs or not.

Anthias are a social bunch (schooling) and perfer to be in groups. If you can handle 2 or 3 more I would go for it. One will become the dominate male and the others fall in line They will definitely make your tank more active.

I do not know if I have the bioload capacity for any more. Current residents in my 120 g tank are: 1 5" powder blue tang, 1 3" lunare wrasse, 1 3" tomato clown, 1 3" lemon peel angel, 2 bicolor anthias. Do I have room for 1 or 2 more? If so, Do they need to be bicolor or can I mix in a different type of anthias?
