I've been wondering about this for some time. All of the screw-in CFLs I've seen are in 2700k to 6700k range, with the lone exception of Coralife's 50/50 bulb. Are there screw-in CFLs in higher color temperatures?

The only other ones I've found are blue party bulbs at home depot. Its a blue/actinic color would be good for a diy reef light or something but other than that 6700k is the highest i've seen

I've been checking the major bulb stores on the web as well.. seems like they don't carry them.

I suppose I could always shell out the extra cash for those Coralife ones.

im wondering the same things... 6700k is fine for plant growth.. and those types of bulbs would suck in a reef application even if they were in a higher color temp

Mostly aesthetics.

I've been out of the saltwater side of the hobby for quite some time, but people did use these in certain cases, mainly for refugiums and nano-tanks.

after reading the propaganda on the ada site, I started wondering about 8000k temp bulbs... I haven't found them yet, but did find DIMMABLE 6500k ones. I think they were fairly high wattage too.
