I am in the military and getting ready to move in a few months, can I take the LR with me or will it not make the trip. I don't know how long it would take to get the tank set up again. If I can take it that would be great as it isn't all that cheep to replace 30 lbs of rock.

Put in a large Rubbermaid container. The wetter you keep it, the better off you are. Wet newspaper works well. If you are not going to set up the tank right away, as soon as you get to where you are going, fill the Rubbermaid up with saltwater and throw in a heater and powerhead.

Depending on how long the move is, much of the little critters like sponges will die off on the live rock, however, it will soon come back to life and is still valuable.

Once you're ready to setup your new tank:
1) Scrub your live rock with a hard bristle brush and clean off as much dead organic matter as possible.
2) You can either throw it in a rubbermaid tub or into your new setup (make sure you don't add any other sealife until the curing process is done) and make sure to run multiple powerheads to keep good circulation flowing between the rocks.
3) Add the heater
4) It would help speed up the process by adding an external HOB (hang on back) filter and filling it with carbon to get rid of organics
5) Run a protein skimmer to again cut down organics
6) Change water as needed

It will be ready once the LR passes the smell test...pull out a piece of live rock and if it smells fishy or nasty, it's still not cured. The LR is ready when it smells "fresh"...meaning no funky odors.

Good Luck
