He/She is a Bristlenose Plec and is about 2 inches long now and has just started getting tiny bristles on the nose. I had read that the females dont get bristles so am I safe in assuming my Bristlenose is a he. I hope so because I dont want to change the name to Walleina.

Here's a pic of my Albino bristlenose. Notice the large red spot on the top of his head this is usually an indicator of being a male, although if your is not albino the red won't be anywhere near as prominent. Also my male also has bristles and my female doesn't.
