I have a 75 gallon aquarium that has 5 yellow lab cichlids in it (1.5"-2"). What other mbuna species are good to keep with labs. And How many would you suggest putting in? Also how many different species should be in their?
Acei, Rusties, Red Zebras (if you don't mind crossbreeding) Are the ones I would recommend. I'm sure there are some more, but those are the ones i'm familiar with that are of the same tempermant. I'd say you could put 7 or so of each of those species in there with a 1:3 male to female ratio. There will be some of the experts by here in a little bit that will be way more help than me
To add some contrast, Pseudotropheus socolofi albino or Snow White socolofi, is also a good choice for all the species mentioned above. I would choose 4 species and 7 fishes of each one. With the labs and aceis, the male/female ratio isn't so important due to their less aggressive nature for mbuna standards.
In general most of the common mbuna species would be fine with the yellow labs. The tank is large enough so with enough stock the aggression should'nt be to bad. I'm sure their are a few exceptions.
