I have Ramshorn, and lately I have noticed that a few of mine have either developed, or were born (I have large and small snails w/ this) a very milky colored shell. It's almost like the colors are hidden underneath...?

I assume that this may be a sign of poor diet, or lack of a mineral, but I need some guidance here please.

Tank Info:
10G Tank (3+ yrs old)
Shrimp (Ghost & Cherry), Ramshorn, Endlers, a male Guppy and Panda Corys
Heavily planted w/ Java Moss, Crypts, and Hydra (No Ferts)

Ammonia/nitrIte = 0
NitrAte (a bit high) = 40

Weekly 50-60% WCs w/ heavy Gravel Vacs

Food: Fish Flakes & Daphnia (ever other day), 1 crumbled Algae Wafer (1x a week), Shrimp Pellets (3x a week)

I would say that I average around 20 snails in the tank (I actually use their #s to help me regulate my feedings to increase/decrease)

Thanks!

Not sure Lupin, I will need check these when I get home. (I knew someone would ask :silly:)

i have ramshorns that have gray/blue swirls and one whole side, it just a color morph like they are trying to go blue, have had these very often,
if there is no pitting or holes, than its just genetics doing their thing,..

Some snails have cleare shells than others and you can see the insides thru the shell Res Rams are this way what you are seeing is thier blood to give the shell a red color.

Man you take amazing pictures! I have a couple that look like the red guy, no see throughs tho.

I have Rams with some white on the shells, while their nerite and brigg tankmates have perfect shells. I think it is a genetic thing like dixie said.

Sorry for the delay here...I have been out straight both here at work and at home!

GH is 14
pH 7.6

I'll try to get some pics tonight, but about 1/6th of the snails have this white/milky shell that I wouldn't describe as pitted, but the shells are not smooth and there seems to be shallow ridges along the spirals of the shell (but all them have this). Hard to explain.

From a layman's perspective one can tell something isn't right. In the meantime I will try and find an image off the web that is similar to my situation.

Thanks again guys.

P.S.
Great Photos sounguru! :)
