Algae???

Hi All

Can some one pls tell me what is that brownish thing growing on my substrate? I have added 2 tubes of 20000k for lighting (30 watts each) and I found these things growing on my substrate. Please advice how to get rid of them and prevent them from growing. I have headr of diatoms before but does not know how they reproduce and ways to get rid of them. Any help will be greatly appreciate. Thanks
 
Is the tank new? It does sound like Diatoms and they will go away on their own. You can just stir the gravel for now or get some hermit crabs if the tank is not new. Diatom is generally the first algae growth before all the coralline and the other algaes start growing. Anyway, hope this helps and good luck.
 
these diatoms cleared after about 2 weeks in my tank but the horrible long green hair algae that appeared after the brown stuff has taken a lot longer to get rid of.get a good clean up crew in there now and keep phospates at 0
