I thought I've seen this before but was unable to find it. Thought it may be a good thread.

Where is the best position in a standard (rectangle shaped) tank for the HOB (Hang on back)type filters and for return line and outflow of canisters?

When I ran a single HOB, I put it in a corner so the outflow flowed along the side and created a circular current around the tank.
As for canisters, I've read inflow at one end outflow at the other. Does this provide the best circulation?

Most "newbies" have one filter but many others run two. Feel free to comment on this (placement of one in relation to the other) also.

Apparently this thread isn't that good:(
I'll try GFW:)

sorry, didn't see it before.

HOB there is really only so much you can do with, but like you said maybe, i try to arrange mine so it pushes stuff back towards the inlet. i try to get like a circular pattern going, out across the tank, reflect off a wall and back towards the inlet. anything you can do to cause the waste to drift naturally towards the inlet would have to be good.

this is sort of basically the same thing i do with canisters. mine have alot of force and current, so i send it towards to far end and bounce it off the glass so the return flow should sort of "sweep" the bottom and bring any waste back towards the inlet, which i leave on the same side as the outlet.
