I just went to my lfs today, I got hooked up too, I got a blue ram and 2 java ferns all for only $6.
Well anyways, Ill be purchasing another light strip next week, but for now im goign to plant these 2 java ferns, whats a rhizome and where is it?
Ive heard that if you bury it the plant will die.

That's a lateral section.. runs horizontal to the gravel/sand surface. The leaves grow upwards from the rhizome; roots go (mostly) downward from the rhizome.

If you need a good visual then google iris propagation. Theres bound to be a picture or two.

The little bit where the leaves meet the roots. If burried below the substrate it will rot and the plant will die.

think of the rhizome as the plants butt
just like a person...anything below the butt are consider legs or in a plants case roots.. anything above the butt is considered....except for those instances whan a persons head is.... nevermind; I will try to contain myself today.
