so I have two rams, and I need them sexed. first one I think is a female but don't know and second I was told was a male by the LFS. so idk. problem is the bigger "female" harasses the smaller one. if they are boy and girl they are not wanting to pair up, she just chases him around the tank. so I have got another tank :). If the smaller ram who gets picked on is in fact a male and the first is a female may they possibly partner up or at least be civil if I have him away from her for a while to get bigger and color up some more?

by the way I am incredibly un-computer-savvy so I'm sorry if these pics don't work, I'm having a hard time with 'em :)

...i have no clue... i know with blue rams the females have pink bellies.... not sure on these beauties.

Rams are hard to sex, but if one is just chasing the other like that, odds are they're not going to pair up any time soon. If you want a pair, you may want to consider buying 4-6 of them and just let nature take its course. Once you have a pair you can remove the others. Good luck

Top one looks female to me. Bottom one just looks sick and I'd take it back. Notice how the stomach on that fish is caved in and it's forehead looks skinny. I'm guessing internal parasites is the problem. Take the fish back and get a new one and you'll be much happier.

By the way, rams aren't hard to sex if they are good quality. Anything that is hard to sex as far as rams means that they are of the Asian variety, which are notorious for being hormone ridden.

oh crap hes sick? well Im putting him in his own tank then. he eats like crazy and seems fine but his color is very dull. whats the best way to cue any internal pests? cant really take him back since the store is in Portland. I thought about just getting more and letting them pair up naturally but I didn't have the extra cash and I cant find them locally. If I see some around and I get more would it be bad to keep more than one male with one female, granted they will be living in a very large tank?

idk either...i don't even know how to tell common goldfish apart

Internal parasites tend to make the fish not eat. If it is eating then it may not have them. Maybe it was just malnourished but it doesn't look healthy IMO.

My LFS starve their fish. Often I take fish home with sunken bellies like that, and after a few days of good feedings (in a QT just to be safe) they plump up. They probably weren't fed well so he's a bit sunken in. If he's eating like crazy then I would bet everything on the poor guy just not being fed enough at the pet store. :) See how they look after a few days. I think he'll be just fine.

They would probably be fine in a large enough tank, just make sure nobody's getting beat up. As for being sick, that one is probably just a little starved, so you may want to just separate them for a little bit and fatten him up. If he doesn't fill out, he may have internal parasites.
