So, I bought my Valentini Puffer an expensive snack

So I took a trip out to my LFS to restock my tank's clean up crew. Amongst the various snails and crabs I bought were 10 margarita snails. Well I acclimated them and set them in the sand on the bottom of my tank. For whatever reason, they always take a few hours before they start to move over and onto the glass. Well, I leave and come back a few hours later and my puffer has turned each and every one of them upside down and was picking at them. I was amused and slightly upset both at the same time, more amused. We'll see how many of the snails survived this ordeal. I read somewhere that clams are great for puffers to pick at. I don't recall my LFS selling these, are they common? Also, I think in the future when I introduce new inverts to my tank I'll temporarily cover them with a piece of tupperwear, or similar, to keep this from happening again. Sorry for the random post, just thought I'd share. :)

I have a blue spot puffer...almost the same thing. When I get new snails (I get trochus) he tries to eat them, but they are really good evaders and he just gives up...weird though, he always knows when and which are new.

Interesting my valentini never did have a snack for snails, but he did love frozen shelled clams. I would thaw a couple out and place them in the tank. I got mine from a local Oriental market.

Good advice, I'll check out so local supermarkets for some frozen clams. I know it's good and healthy for them to have stuff like this to bite at, which is why I'm not so upset about loosing a new group of snails. Live and learn. :)
