If I have a Biowheel 330 and want to put it in an established tank to fill it with all the necessary goodies, how long do you think it would take? Couple two three days, one week, two weeks? What would you guess to get it going well?

I like to run new filters for 2 weeks on an established tnak to seed them. When you remove it, monitor both the established tank and the new tank since you are in essence transferring part of the colony from one tank to another. Typically, I see little more than a ripple in the established tank but just keep an eye.

And I just remembered (again) why I can't do this... The HOB + turtle tank with water down 4 or 5 inches from the rim don't work well together...
But it's still good to know for our QT tank and such...
Thanks Jinkzd!

You could just swap out some media instead of running the filter on the tank to seed it.

Take some of the media from the established tank. Also take some of the water. Putting that media in with fresh water can kill the benefical bacteria.

only if its not been dechlorinated. You don't need the water really.
