How large or how old are angels when they start pairing off? I purchased one angel a few weeks ago and put him in the tank. (I say him, because his name is Mike) About 2 weeks later, I added one more. (Tank is cycled, but I didn't want to add a ton of fish at once, so I'm doing it slowly) Their bodies are slightly larger than a quarter, but from top fin to bottom fin, they measure about 2 and a half inches. (I'm estimating) These angels get along perfectly. I have a 55 gallon tank with two ottos in it as well. Over the past few weeks, I've noticed that the angels rarely stray far from each other and they don't really fight either. It's actually really cute to see how close they are. I purchased them from the same LFS, which gets them from a local breeder. Anyways, I am concerned about adding more angels. I'd really like to add 3 or 4 more, but I'm afraid that these two might become aggressive. They are so peaceful now, I'd hate to disturb them, but I really want more angels. Would adding more significantly alter their behavior? Heh, it was really funny when I added the ottos. They didn't like it at all. The angels chased them around the tank until the ottos hid themselves. Now they live in harmony and the angels barely notice them anymore. I'm actually surprised at how fast the angels are growing. They are definately gorgeous fish!

angels school when young and gradually as they reach sexual maturity they become the teritorial cichlids that they are

angelsplus.com has responded to a question I put to them on how long angels go about growing and he said that they reach mature dimensions by two years of age with most of the length and hight growth done by about a year and a half

a maximum magnificent specimen would be total 12" tall and 6" long with a body diameter of 4"

I have heard of angels first spawning at half that body size(2") but I don't know if they were stunted and older than they looked based on maximum size growth rates or if that is when they start matureing

if you want to obtain a pair then I would say yes get 3 or 4 more, but you will have to take some back to the store or find other tanks for some after they start pairing up
