i have a pair of JDs one male and the other a suspected female. She is about maybe a quarter of an inch larger than him but hes getting large and the bump on his head. They fight often and male twitches in front of her..is that the mating twitch?

Ya that's what I'm looking for but nothing yet. It seems likes they wouldn't bc the female would be too aggresive but the male began growing in the last month or so and is starting to put it down and not swim away

I'm impressed you got them to get along. I have a JD that I suspect is a female who hates everyone (myself included). Doesn't help that she's now a 6-7 inch fish so most of the fish you see in the store are way too small to fend for themselves. The fish that are big enough seem to cost $20-30 and who knows if they'll last or not.

Yea female was the first in my tank like 3-4 months back..when I put my male a month back I put him so he can pair with the other jd, which I thought was a male, to beat up or put up against the GT.. But no my female would always try and beat em up so he was in constant hide out in some driftwood. Got big enough they fought but he is by far my fastest in the tank.
