My roommates and I like it to be cold in our apartment during the summer. We like to wear sweaters and whatnot while we're in here so we run the A/C pretty hard.

Right now, it is a really cold night and my windows are open. The light on my submersible heater comes on every 10-20 minutes to heat the tank back up. The water is always back up to 78 degrees within a couple minutes. The water never goes below 76. There is condensation on the inside of my tank just above the water line.

Do you think I should get an extra heater or do you think it will be fine?

an extra heater will help.. and will acctually be more energy efficient because it will heat more thouroughly

but.. it will be fine if you choose to keep it at 1 heater as well

An extra will help also just in case one goes bad you'll have backup :)

If you were buying new and you wanted a 200W heater for a 55, would you go with 2x 200W or 2x 150W or 2x100W if you wanted two heaters?

2X100W would be good, that way if one breaks you aren't left without a heater

OK. I wasn't sure that if you split them if you should bump up the total wattage a little, like a pair of 150's to cover for a single 200...
