Anyone know if one can cast resin in a mould to make aquarium safe-decorations? Obviously some tank decorations are commerically cast from something.

... and if you can- are there certain paints that would be safe to use- or would I need to steer clear of paints.

If not resin- what would one use?

Are there some tank-safe resins and others that leak toxins? How would I know?

Yes you can cast resin for decorations. As to how to do it I honestly forget. There are paints that can be use also. Marine paint is one, and a type of latex not sure what kind. When I worked for fiberglass reef company we made all of our corals from molds.

I used to make mould's using liquid latex as a kid- and then fill them with plaster of paris or... more fun, coloured hot-glue sticks. Made about a half dozen chess pieces using glue gun glue once... got bored before I completed the whole set!

It's been a long time 20+ years or so- but I don't recall it being too difficult to make the moulds. I managed to do it as a kid- surely I could do it now!

I've never used resin- but it makes the most sense for this project and I know that it (along with liquid latex) can be found at most craft stores.

I'm just curious if any resin is OK- or only certain ones.
