My cory cats have been in my tank for a while. Some 3+ years. Recently I lost one of my cats, do not know why, looks OK. Did not add medication or anything. Lost another last week (same thing), no external signs, was eatting before, ect. Well today I notices one of my Cory Robineas have a red bloch "in" its head. Yes the inside of head is red. Also one of it's eyes is sticking out (buldge not falling out). What is wrong?? Is there an illness I know nothing about?? Have been keeping fish for 30years.

What are your water parameters?

Probably because of age, ive hear corys only live to 3 to five years. if its not that, then yes, what are your water perimiters

Do not think it is age, have some cory that is older and bigger.
PH==7.0
ammonia==0
nitrate==0
nitrate==2.5 ppm
phosphate==.1ppm
Tank is 100gal About 100 tetras, 6 angel fish, 10 dwarf cichilds (apistogramma), and 12 cory cats.
I do 15% water change every week. No other deaths in tank for about 1-2 years.
Tank is heavily planted, does with CO2. Auto when lights come on.

I'm sorry I can't help you, but do you have a picture of that tank? It sounds like an awesome tank, 100 tetras and all.

I have digital camera but my computer does not have a port to download with. Sorry, :( may update computer this Holiday. If do will post pics.
Have about 22 Cardinals, all other tetras either 8-12. Black phantoms, Emperors, Kerriis, Pristellas, Brass, Head & tail lights, flame (not the Serpea), Diamond, and 6 bleeding hearts (which are over 2 years old and is 3" in diameter).
bulging eyes can indicate a bacterial problem, some sort of an infection. if it is it might be treatable with maracyn and/or maracyn2. (there are also other treatments) one of them is for gram positive bacteria, one is for gram negative. a hospital tank would be preferrable as treating 100g would be pretty expensive.
do you vacuum at all? i would be checking the substrate for problems, maybe even an anaerobic spot. cories scavenge the bottom, so if they are the only ones showing problems whatever is causing it might be down there. they also might have eaten something else that died and could have caused the problem.....
just some suggestions....... good luck

Thx for replies.
I do try to vaccum subtrate but not easy, too much plants. Cannot rule out something died and cory ate it, but if that was case it would have to be a small tetra. All other large fish accounted for.

I have so many plants that there really is no large open space in subtrate.
the plants are supposed to keep anaerobic activity down too.... the roots do something for it.....
the problem or question sort of remains tho, the bulging eye suggests bacterial infection.... where would it come from, and/or how to prevent it from happening.
the first 2 cories weren't showing any symptoms?
no new additions to the tank or changes?
are there any others left besides this one? i would be paying extremely close attention to any others and the other fish in the tank. if any more show any signs like bulging eye(s) or dropsy (inflated stomach) i would definately treat the tank with an antibiotic. it is also important to find and remove dead fish and maybe even dying ones as the other fish nibbling at any one that dies is a good way to pass problems around.

Yes I still have some cory left. Others look OK. No new additions for a while now. The angels are newest and was about 2 months ago.

No. Looked OK. Found one dead when doing water chnage and other was about 90% dead one morning (I had to euthanize (?) it).

The cory with the eye problem passed over the weekend :sad .
Still have 10 left (at least I think I still have 10). Will keep an eye on the rest.
sorry...... :(
the hard part about fish or any animal for that matter is they can't tell us what is wrong. it leaves us guessing......
