I have been doing reef tanks since January, so I am fairly new, but I keep losing Green Chromis. I am wondering if they are a weak species or if I am doing something wrong. I have 3 original that survive but all new ones that I add die off. 0 Ammonia 0 Nitrite 0 Nitrate 0 Phos 8.2PH 11dkH 1.023SG

Unfortunately from my experience that is normal with those fish. I know a few reefers with larger tanks that like to have a school of around 10 and they say they usually have to replace 3-4 a month due to deaths. I guess they are just a weak species or somehow are stealth killers and take out the weakest at night. I know my neighbor who had a 75G had just 2 of them and they lived for about 5 years and his tank was definately not what I would consider well maintained by any stretch of the imagination. So not sure what to make of it, maybe you just have to get lucky or maybe only 1 out of 10 actually make it in a shipment.

Thanks for the info, I was just trying to make sure that I wasn't doing anything wrong.

That sucks! Don't give up though. Post some pics of the remaining three if you have time!

Is there a similar schooling fish that is comparable to size and temperament that is hardier?

Not really, Anthias are the "other" similar type of schooling fish, but from my experience their hardiness is about equal to the blue/green chromis.

You can school cardinal fish, although they have a tendency to just sit there most of the time.
