I was just informed by the boss (my wife) that a bigger tank is out of the question:(. Would angles work in my 55 (they are my next faforite just never had a tank big enough till now) or should I just stick to my old plan of putting rams in it? Do they need a lot of plants or would they be ok with a few plants and drift wood to fill out my tank?

Angels will work well there. Get 5-6 juveniles if you like, let them pair off and breed if you plan to start a business. Angels don't require plants but they can utilize tall plants such as vallisnerias to hide amongst like they do in the wild. Go with driftwoods and low lighting plants. Rams make fine tankmates as well.

Thank you I will do that instead. Someday I will get my new tank and have my discuss too ;). How many rams could I put in with them and could I put other fish in with the rams and angels?

re: Angels - I second what was already said, but would add that as they pair up, you will probably wind up wanting to get rid of unpaired Angels, leaving your tank with one or two pairs. The Rams and Angels won't bother each other much unless they set up territories too close to those of the Angels.

More plants may help with respect to having smaller territories.

As to numbers of Rams, they'll end up working out a lot like Angels, but you can get 2-3 pairs of Rams in a territory typically occupied by a single pair of Angels, so if your goal is 2 pairs of Angels, I'd probably go for 3 pairs of Rams - 4 pairs or Rams if you want just one pair of Angels.

Larger bodied tetras (lemons, diamonds, bleeding hearts, etc.) Smaller fish, such as neons, often times are seen as food.

Would platies be a good addition to the angels? I'm not sure if they will nip thier fins or not.

I have three angels in my 55, and they were all the same size when I started, but one of these is like 3x the size of the others now. He is huge! No idea if its male of female....

I am not 100% sure, but do not think platies are fin nippers.

Given a few females for every male you would be fine.
