Hi all, my geos have succesfully layed a huge batch of fertile eggs. The tank has been split to protect them and the mother is with the clutch. The eggs started to hatch yesterday and now are a mass of riggiling fry. I have read that i should feed them when they start to "free Swim". I hope i time this right as not to loose to many. I have started a batch of brine shrimp that have also hatched this morning, could anyone tell me how long before the free swimming fase starts? As i would like to time the hatching of shrimp to coincide.

The next two pics are of the last batch that dissapeared over night, the new batch[not gremlins, geophagus] is about three to four times the size of this one.

Has anyone raised fry of any species got any advice for me? All will be most appreciated

Wow, congrats!

I've never kept any of the Geo species but from what I've read they pretty much take care of them like most species of SA Cichild.

Cheers again vicious, woot woot

COngrats !

No idea on these specific fish, but you want super clean water and a daily feed - sorry can't be more help. I don't know if these guys are liable to eat their own young or when they should be separated or what - although most cichlids are really good parents.

I also have no direct experience with these particular fish, but free swimming stage doesn't take more than a few days - 3 or 4 I think. In a pinch, the fry should take frozen baby shrimp, even crushed flake, until your shrimp eggs hatch. I don't know about G. braziliensis but some cichlid parents chew and spit out food for their fry.
Good luck. I think male G braziliensis are among the most beautiful of fish.
