what to do with marimo

one of my marimo has grown so big that it feels like it's coming apart! it's almost completely hollow inside, and feels like i could put my fingers right through it with no effort if i wanted to. is this the point where one tears the ball into pieces to grow new balls? (that sounds so dirty! :lipssealedsmilie:)

I have seen pics of marimo balls spread open and attached to driftwood. It looks pretty nice.

Mine got that way, and it blew itself apart. Now I have a bunch of little imperfect balls all over the tank.
