To Whom It May Concern,
Does anyone know of any half decent Pirahna info sites ?? I recently purchased 2 larger sized red bellies (about 5-6 inches) and I'd like to know if there are any sites with info on care and proper conditions for them ?? I have owned Pirahnas before therefore I have some knowledge about them and know there are apparently over 130 different species of Pirahna however I can't seem to find any half decent sites that pertain mostly to red bellies however. Ladies and Gentlemen, Pirahnas are not violent man eaters they are peaceful docile fish but thanks to those who buy them for the sole purpose of sitting at home drinking a 24 watching them shred feeders to bits I suggest not doing so because you're an idiot. When you dump them into a river or stream they take over the entire population which is why they have become illegal in many warmer states. My advice is this, if you want fish, KEEP THEM IN YOUR **** TANKS fer god sakes DON'T flush them after a week because you get bored with them because they won't eat anymore. Do you think if you gorged yourself like a fat little piglet you'd wanna keep eating ???? I think not folks, I think not. Anyways any help would be of great joy because I love these fish and don't give them a bad rap just because of what some backwoods redneck tells ya everyone, anyone who's stupid enough to taunt a Pirahna with a piece of steak tied to a string deserves to lose their fingers far as I'm concerned. Thanks for your time and patience and like I said before, any info on Pirahna relevant sites would be VERY much appreciated :D
Sincerely Yours :)

No could happen
I had Red Belly's with a foot long Snakehead and they all got along peacefully they never even nipped at my jewel's.
I also had four Red's shoal with five pacu's and three red hook silver dollars(i was extremly into Characins!). In fact the Pacu killed one of my Pirahna's.
What's even more dumb is that like there is no other bigger fish in the wild that can gulp up a few piranha. Like a Muskie or a Northern. Hell, there illegal here but i can still find them and the channels out here would make short work of them especially when fall/winter comes around they won't do so well in the rivers.
But everyone thinks they'll kill us all if we swim with them. Those stupid horror flicks are another good reason to make people already paranoid and scared even more sissified.
Don't you wish all these fish weren't illegal(especially in Arizona, stingrays, snakeheads or Blind Cave Tetras!!!, could someone explain that one.)
Just think what people miss out in the hobby cause some idiots that they could just release them into the wild. I wish there could be a contract or something that i could get when buying "illegal fish" but i could get a gun at Wal Mart!
Which by the way is a "way of life" out here!

Try pitting a shoal of hungry red bellys with one of the fish you mentioned that can gulp a few in the amazon, documentries show pirahnas devouring cows, but not sure whether they are red bellys or emperor pirahnas.A note of caution, don't forget to feed the pirahnas no mater how docile they are.

True
Im sure if i didn't feed them in a few days they would of killed everything and themselves I've seen it at the store i used to work at.
They were Red Belly they got HUGE!
Out lived the Silver Dollars though.
Wouldn't you agree though that Game and Fish should legalize more fish threw a contract or written agreement of some sort?
Really takes a hammer to hobbyists.

Yeah i remember this great video of Pirahnas called
"Wolves of the water"
They tore up these baby egrets like puppy chow :D
It was cool.
Let me know if you've seen it?
It was on Discovery or Travel one of the two.

Yes I have seen it before I actually now own the DVD of it. IF you go to Discovery.com, you can find it there and I believe it's $19.99 and it's called "Pirahna, Wolves in The Water" I think anyways. Those were Red Emperor Pirahnas tearing that cow apart by the way, red bellies only grow to a little more than a foot however yellow king and Emperors can grow to over 2 feet  Imagine those things taking a nip at your hand during cleaning time, ouch is all I can say :p Take it easy and best wishes with your "kids" so to speak ;)

Blind Cave Tetras are illegal there ?!?!!?!? That has got to be the stupidest thing I have ever heard I mean they can't even see for Christ sakes !!!! Now stingrays I can see because lemme tell you this my friend, if you get stung by one or have the joy of stepping on one IT HURTS LIKE HELL AND GET YOUR *** TO A HOSPITAL ASAP !!!! You see I live in Canada and ALL fish aren't illegal here however some species (such as Parrotfish and Discus) are very hard to find and VERRRRRY expensive for a breeding pair. The most expensive fish I have ever seen however was either the Vampire Characin which was $149.99 or the Red Tailed Barracuda which was around $180 or some ridiculous amount. My uncle owns a fish store here and he tries to get fish other stores have never ever heard of but his entire stock is entirely freshwater species he doesn't even deal with marine fish whatsoever. He has stingrays, Arrowanas, Barracudas, White and Red Bellies, and many MANY kinds of beautiful Cichlids which I'm sure he shouldn't have but does anyways such as a breeding pair of Red Parrots he is selling for $300  By the way yes I think the state should pass a law allowing RESPONSIBLE folks like you and I to allow us to breed and maintain illegal species because not everyone of us is a fat ******* who goes out and buys a 10 gallon tank and packs it full of red bellies to sit there on a Friday night watching them tear apart anything they toss in the tank, than decide a week later they get bored with them so they either dump them in the lake or flush them down the crapper. In repsonse to your "illegal fish" but getting a gun at Wal Mart, do they really sell guns at Wal Mart there ?? We have several Wal Marts here and here's the deal with guns here just so you know how bad it is. You can own any gun as long as it's under 500 feet per second such as a pellet or bb gun however every single gun you own HAS to be registered at a cost of $250 dollars per year. However, if you want anything bigger than a .22, first you need several things in order to be able to go and buy yourself one. First of all, you need a Firearms Acquisition Certificate which costs you around $140 bucks and takes several weeks to obtain after they figure out you're not a nutjob. Than you need a hunter's safety Graduate certificate to show them you aren't going out to kill a deer with an AM-8 .50 calibre sniper rifle or an MP-5 sub machine gun. To top that off, there is no such thing as a waiting period here for handguns. If you want a handgun, you first of all need those two things I told you about plus a Restricted Firearms Access Card because ALL handguns here are VERY much illegal. You also have to buy a permit saying you have been granted permission by the Government of Canada to own a handgun ONLY for the sole purpose of target shooting and that permit allows to to go from your home to the gun club ONLY. If you stop for gas or smokes on the way to the club and they find it on your person even if you have a handgun permit and RFAC permit they will toss you in jail for 10-15 years because it's considered carrying and concealing an illegal weapon which is total BS. Pretty **** stupid huh ??? Well that's the deal here in the Great White North, COO LOO COO COO COO LOO COO COO :p Just kidding eh ??? Take it easy and I'll stay in touch and happy fishkeeping :D
Yours Truly,

Red Belly Piranha are aka Pygocentrus Nattereri. Type pygocentrus nattereri into google and you'll get a LOT of hits. Heres a few examples.
http://www.angelfire.com/biz/piranha038/pirafeeding.html
Its a cool site dealing with an experiment someone did. He/she fed his red bellies seeds and maybe fruits.
http://www.geocities.com/heartland/prairie/5962/Nattereri.html
theres a quick info page
www.predatoryfish.net
go there and use the search engine in the piranha forum. There is probably more info on reds posted there than on pages (in english) on the web.

Hey fishguy believe me Arizona has the most strictest laws on regarding fish in the U.S. I moved from Chicago so I really miss the BETTER selection. But they never had really a good variety of C.A and S.A Cichlids as a matter of fact every time i ask for a Parrot Cichlid they would give me those stupid hybrids.
Seriously you can walk into stores and shops outhere with a gun unless it says on the door "No Firearms".
Walmart and other gun stores are notorious outhere for bending the rules.
Hey, are Snakeheads still legal in Canada.
Those Stingrays hurt i got stung but it was from stupidy not them being evil fish. And my left arm was numb after a few hours.
Also I also been shocked by a Electric Eel when cleaning the tank it was in( i had gloves on) But it still hurt, not as bad as Stingrays though!
i haven't been able to find it lately, but one time i found a website...... pirahna.org
i was doing some research myself and wanted to know about them.
i haven't been able to locate it on searches since though. :( but it might be still out there or having temporary problems of some sort, worth another websearch if you have the time to look around.

Snakeheads are very much legal here, actually to tell you the truth all fish are but like I said before, some are very hard to find here and they AREN"T cheap. A breeding Discus pair can be anywhere from $70-$1000 dollars for the rarer species. I simply can't believe you can walk around with a gun out there, trust me if you did that here you'd be locked up getting raped before you could even blink or pass wind. Yes those stingrays hurt allright, dear God do they ever hurt. At first you figure AHHH it's no big deal, just a little nip nothing that bad. Than you wake up to a spaghetti arm or leg if you have the joyous pleasure of stepping on one accidentally. Now eels I don't know about I haven't yet had the pleasure of being zapped by one yet however my uncle has some LARGE freshwater Morays right now and they are nasty looking things :p Wouldn't wanna get nicked by one of those guys that would leave a mark allright. In response to your remark about Hybrid parrot fish, if you are considering keeping them they are VERY hard to maintain they are like Discus. They need WARM water (80-85 degrees) and water filtered through peat and low lighting conditions and BLAH BLAH BLAH it goes on for days. People will always say this to you, YEAH YEAH they're real Parrots they just look a little different. HA, bull**** I didn't just get off the boat here folks I know what they are supposed to look like. But I'll keep this short cause I know you hate reading books for the love of God, but best of luck with all your "kids" and I have heard that there are also people out there who bend the law with certain species of fish *WINK WINK* not only regarding gun laws. Take it easy and I'll stay in touch :D Bye for now fellow fishkeeper .....
Sincerely,
FISHGUY_CA

Snakeheads rare and expensive there? If that is the case,i just bring one from here to there,i can make a lot of money since it is food here:D,Parrots which are already hybrids hard to keep? They are one of the easiest to keep IMHO,discus is the opposite.
