i recently went driftwood hunting in one of my friend's creeks and i found two amazing pieces, ones a huge stump-like piece and the other is just smaller.
well i was totally not thinking and just plopped it into my aquarium, and as i was lowering into the water it hit me that i was being an idiot. so i took it out and looked it over, and found some concerns..
there are little white eggs on it. almost everywhere. tiny enough that you wouldn't notice them initially but still easy to see with the naked eye. they are in little rows almost, 3 or 4 eggs to a row, but none of them are parallel, all going different directions and there are some that are singley stuck to the wood.
what could this be and what do i do? i can't really boil it, its big..
?

Will it fit into the microwave? If not, pouring boiling water over it or else soaking in bleach/water should do it.

i can definitely pour boiling water over it. didn't think of that.
how long should i keep it up (the boiling water pouring) to kill tag-alongs?

and i don't think it is ants, it came from underwater--it took me a while because it was halfway into the earth at the bottom of the creek (the cold, waist high, cold creek lol)

EDIT: btw it definitely won't fit into the microwave

oh another thing i though of, how efficient would just letting the wood sit outside and dry for a couple days be? would it kill the aquatic tag-alongs? cuz its been out there for 2 days already and it would be super convenient to just be able to put it back in now haha

alrighty :D i will do that some time this week.
would the boiling water/heat make the bark come off? because about half has come off to show this really smooth yellow wood and half is still on, and it looks really cool like that. i will pour the bowling water over it either way, just curious of other experiences
thanks petluvr :)

I have never tried putting a piece in a tank that still has the bark on, so I can't help you there. Hope it worksout though. Was it in the tank long enough to have possibly transferred anything? You might want to keep an eye on the tank for a little just to make sure.

i sat and watched the tank for a while because i was worried that i introduced something into the tank, and i saw this little fat centipede looking thing, but i *think* it was a dragon fly larvae. you could tell it was dying, i scooped it out and tossed it. i watched some more, and nothing else. ive been studying it like nobody's business for a couple days now and am starting to relax about it. i think im good in the area of tag-alongs now.
im still shocked that the whateveritwas made it through the car ride home, it was almost an hour. well, actually it was over an hour because we stopped to eat lol.
