I set up a new tank and used the same procedure for the mopani wood as I have in the past. Soaked several days/with water changes and scrubbed before placing in the tank. Awaiting plants and wood is showing a white pillowy fungus, nothing like this before. When wiped off it does not appear to regrow from the cleaned off spot.
Anyone know if this is a problem, is treatment necessary, I'm choosing to just wipe it off and strain/filter as I go. Still no live stock at this time.
Thanks for your help.

It is normal and like you stated can either be scrubbed off or left alone and it will go away. No danger to anything:)

Petluvr,
Thanks for the quick response, was a little concerned, can't seem to understand what was different this time from all the others over the years.
Think it could be a was soaking them outdoors and around here we are to mold and pollen capital of the world at times.
Thanks again.

I just asked this question not too long ago, nothing at all to worry about. Present and more persistent in some woods than others I guess. My shrimp and snails love it, the slime was gone in 2 days!

It depends on the wood itself, maybe how/where it was stored or treated prior to adding it, etc.
Some wood never develops it, some wood takes months to stop developing it. And it doesn't seem to matter where it came from or what type of wood it is. I've gotten 2 pieces of mopani wood from the same store and one got fuzzy white stuff and the other didn't.

Yep, same place I got the other pieces in my other tank. That was the reason for the first post, never had seen it before. Like it's said every tank is different. Thanks for the replies.

it is normal and part of the decay process the wood is going thru.
if the wood was submerged and soaked it may have already gone thru this phase. (petsmart sometimes sells submerged wood)
