Not exactly a pond, but they will be outdoor. They're 55g plastic "drums" that are 23 inches in diameter and 35 inches tall. I've heard of people using them for fish and I've seen them posted on freecycle/craigslist so I'd like to get some one day to use for fish. Not sure what kind though, what kind would be best for the size of it? Basically any tetras, guppies, and other small fish?

i might think that the height of that 'pond' would make it a tad difficult to clean? (well i guess you could plumb the drum) and you would only be able to enjoy fish that swim near the top of the water. unless these drums are clear, but then you'd have the light reflecting off them funny.

unless you were to use these as grow out drums for a breeding venture, i dunno if they'd be good for just enjoying watching your fish.

Depending on where you live, tropical fish might not do well, actually, no matter where you live (minus Africa/the Keys) they'll do bad. Unless you buy heaters for these tanks, monitor the conditions, keep predators out, set up a custom pump system, and a whole bunch of other things. IMHO, I don't think it's worth the trouble to set up, ESPECIALLY if it's not clear and you can't see your stock.

If I had to say one species, I'd say guppies. They're pretty resilient little buggers.

I live in the south; its hot most of the time. I'd have to bring them in in the winter and put screening/chicken wire over the top. I was thinking about using them for babies like guppies, but it might just be easier to have a kiddie pool since I'm not sure they come in clear. they still would be worth it for growouts though I think.
