I recently set up a tank with the goal of breeding pet guppies and I currently have several pregnant females. My mother, who is helping me, used to breed guppies with her grandmother, so she knows a bit about it, but over the years she has forgotten somethings. So back to topic, I wondered if anybody had any tips on being able to tell how close the females are to giving birth or any tips on raising/breeding guppies in general.

She's close to giving birth when she looks more square down from her chin than round. The gravid spot (near her vent) is very large and dark, you can see the little eyes of the babies sometimes. Here is a pic of my guppy about 2 days before birth (not extremely clear, sorry).

A good site on breeding: http://guppyplace.tripod.com/Breeding.html

thanks! I'm so excited, I spent hours looking at my fish last night and finally one of the females came close enough (and in the light) and I saw the little baby fish eyes! I can't wait!
