I'm going to avoid using the persons name or what I purchased, so don't ask!

I purchased a non-living item from someone on the list awhile ago using PMs and paypal, and I still haven't received the item. I was hoping for some advice on what my next step should be and when I should take it.

For your reference: regular shipping, and a good distance away but w/i the country.

Timeline:

April 5th- After a few exchanges discussing product and price, I sent requested money via paypal. They responded saying they would send out item by 7th.

April 10th- They said the item was returned "postage due" and they'd resend on the 13th or 14th.

April 24- I still hadn't received the item, so I asked for an update...to make sure it was sent on the 14th, and what my expected arrival time would be.

As of May 2nd (now), they have not responded to my question. What should I do next? Should I wait a few more days? Should I message again?

I think you should try another email. Also, I think paypal (i only used it once) sometimes holds payment for a time. Maybe until you get something. You should make sure payment went out.

Lastly, if nothing works and the money has been transfered "Outing" them here would be a good idea. Maybe someone knows them and could find out whats up.

Opicana... "outing" the member to the forum at large would not be a good idea. The arrangement made here between buyer and seller is a private matter between them only. We're really not involved (neither are we responsible) for your personal business or sales transactions. Main reason being... say a transaction goes badly and both the buyer and seller run into problems they can't (or won't) resolve. How would anyone here determine who's at fault? Anything our membership would hear would be impossible to confirm reasonably, fairly, and objectively. We've just got nothing to go on when such a case degrades to the "he said"/"she said" level where both members are blaming each other. To allow that to go on here would end up with different friends/members taking sides and this would be divisive to our community overall.

What you can do is take a quick look at one of this member's posts, where you'll find the "last activity" date for that username. At least then you'll know if the person has even been here recently. That information is also available on each member's profile page.

Since you paid for the item using Paypal, I suggest you report this dispute using the Resolution Center at that website. This dispute can then be elevated to a full claim against that Paypal seller, should you decide it's necessary. In the end, final determination for unresolved claims are made by Paypal. This is what that process is there for.

Then, once this gets resolved (or doesn't) leave appropriate feedback for the seller using our Marketplace Feedback feature.

If you have other questions about this, please post them here or contact one of the mods.

Hope everything works out favorably for both of you!

Kashta- No worries, I think you can tell by the 1st line of my 1st post I have no intention outing them here.

My main concern was just timing. How long should I wait in between e-mails? And also, when does a situation warrant poor feedback?

My current plan is to:
- Check their activity level here on the forum (good idea, btw)
- Send another PM
- Send an e-mail
- Hope that they see this thread and it helps get things in motion
- Then....wait a week and see what happens, I guess.

Sounds like a good plan to me. It may be that the person has had some problems that have caused the delay, and non communication. There is a post on this site about someone sending a check, but not knowing what it is for. Was your purchase paid by check?

I would file a claim with PayPal right away...

Yes. File the claim. Don't wait. It has to be done in a time frame, and can always be dissolved later. I waited too long once, and it cost me $300. Get the claim in, and it the problem is resolved, you can make it go away like it never happened.
